The residence is located below the west face of the “China Wall” rock formation in the Wapiti Valley between the west entrance to Yellowstone National Park and Cody, Wyoming.  The house is visible from a long distance and the design drew from colors and shadows of the rock formations to create a subtle intervention in the landscape. The south face is organized by a 52-foot-long rammed earth wall constructed with the excavated soil on site. The roof floats above the south facing rammed earth wall framing unobstructed views to the north facing elevation. The interiors are clean and simple, well crafted and subtle.
